Data updates

What changed, and when

A running log of the CMS datasets this site is built from — release dates, ingest dates, and record counts — so how current the site is never has to be guessed.

How to read this log

Two different dates matter here and we keep them separate. The dataset release date is when CMS published the data. The snapshot generated date is when we last rebuilt the site from those files. A page is only as current as its dataset release date — not the day you happen to load it.

How updates work

Why the site refreshes on a snapshot, not a live feed.

CMS publishes provider data as periodic dataset releases, not a real-time API. We ingest those releases, rebuild every page from them, and redeploy — so the whole site moves to a new snapshot at once, and each page shows the snapshot date it belongs to. This is deliberate: it keeps every figure traceable to a specific CMS release rather than drifting silently. See Methodology for how the data is processed and Data & sources for dataset detail.
